Submissions to the Next Generation
Policies
All submissions to the Next Generation must comply with the following policies.
The Next Generation accepts the following content:
- Interviews with practicing physicians or clinicians for the "Day in the Life of a Physician" Special Features Series
- Interviews for "Free-standing Perspectives" of influential members of the medical field - perspectives on current issues in medicine and issues relevant to the future practice of medicine
- Solicited tutorials - articles co-written with experts in their fields to help general readers understand important academic concepts relevant to medicine (i.e. primers on biostatistics, genetics, genomics, etc.)
- Solicited descriptive articles - articles describing different areas in medicine (i.e. descriptions of the functioning of the FDA, NIH research grants, new models for clinics, etc.)
- Letters to the Editor - comments, suggestions and questions for the NextGen Editors
Even if you have an article that does not fit into one of these categories but which you believe may be of interest for the Next Generation, please send us a description of your article using our Potential Article Form.
We request that all submissions be based on accurate, factual information and not exceed 1000 words (unless otherwise specified).
The Next Generation does not publish original research papers, letters or studies. Submissions to the Next Generation are reviewed and selected only by the Next Generation Student Editors and will not be reviewed or selected by the advising Editors of the New England Journal of Medicine.
The Next Generation does not accept unsolicited attachments.
The Next Generation only accepts article proposals, submissions, comments, and questions through our online forms.
The Next Generation cannot guarantee publication of your submitted manuscript at any time prior to publication. If our Editors, reviewers, or readers find scientific or factual inaccuracies, we will request corrections from the authors. In unusual cases where such requests are refused and the authors cannot sufficiently verify the accuracy of their assertions, the Next Generation reserves the right to withdraw publication of a manuscript or removal of the manuscript from the Next Generation archives of Past Issues.

Procedure to Submit Articles
Please follow these directions to submit a manuscript to the Next Generation.
- Using our Potential Article Form, send us a 100 word summary for your article.
- In your summary, include your name, e-mail address, school (and year of graduation) or professional affiliation, and a 100 word description of your article detailing its background and its relevance to the education of premed students and general interest readers.
- We will respond to inquiries within two weeks of the submission of your abstract. At that time, we will either decline your offer or invite your proposed submission for review. Please understand that we cannot make any commitment in advance to publish your submission.
- If we contact you and inform you that we are interested in reviewing your article, please use our Submissions Form to submit your manuscript.
